LEARN MORE ABOUT THE BRAND

“The Shop for Pappagallo was ushered into the world of fashion five and a half years ago with little expectation in the retailing trade (except on the part of Donald Seligman, the’ founder, and his associates) that it would survive beyond infancy. Mr. Seligman, an executive who had learned his retailing lessons at Delman, Lord & Taylor and McCreery's believed it was feasible to open an independent shoe store in which only one brand of shoes would be sold.

The shoes were manufactured by Pappagallo. a New York concern with an Italian name that means parrot. It was started 11 years ago (1953) by Maurice E. Bandler Jr., an ebullient refugee from the china and gift industry who started making moderate‐priced, high‐fashion shoes without having previously stepped into a shoe factory. Pappagallo shoes immediately won a Ioyal following among young, fashion‐conscious women, many of whom could afford more expensive footwear.”
